Avoiding Penalty Points - Traffic Offence Barristers in Dorset

As well as fining you, the Court can “endorse” your licence with up to 11 penalty points, depending on the driving offence in question. For more information click here
Penalty points usually remain on your licence for 4 years, but in some cases (including drink driving) they stay on for 11 years.

If you accumulate 12 or more points within 3 years you should expect to be disqualified as a “totter” unless you can show this would cause you or someone connected with you “exceptional hardship”.
But if you passed your test within the last 2 years your licence will be cancelled if you accumulate just 6 points. If this happens, you’ll have to retake the entire test, including the theory test.
